Turn Back The Block
Flywheel partnered with Turn Back The Block in the rehabilitation of five contiguous mill houses on Broad Street in Harrisburg.
The historic mill duplexes are located across from King Mill and just east of Martha Lester School. These properties served as housing for workers at either King or Sibley Mills and date to 1900.
Originally, they consisted of a main house, side-gabled cottage with two rooms per side, and a separate saddlebag house in the rear that acted as kitchen for each unit. In recent times, the historic buildings have been crudely connected and rear shed additions for restrooms were added.
Turn Back the Block is a nonprofit whose mission is to promote the revitalization of Harrisburg by rehabilitating existing properties and making them available for affordable home ownership opportunities. Flywheel donated the mill houses for the Turn Back The Block's seed block project.
