In Fall of 2008, Historic Augusta, Inc. listed Martha Lester and 3 other vacant Richmond County Board of Education properties on its 3rd annual Endangered Properties List.
As the successful bidder, Flywheel stabilized the school, including repairing and recoating the metal roof, replacing downspouts and gutters, and abating environmental concerns.
The Martha Lester School was built in 1934 and is 14,500 square feet. It is in good condition and boasts most of its original, handsome architectural features. The school contains a beautiful 200 seat auditorium as well. Sited on over 2 acres along the Augusta Canal, this is property is a diamond in the rough. Plans for future use are being developed now, but the building will be preserved.
